2017 Ford EcoSport Facelift Caught Testing in Brazil

14-Jun-2016 / 4:03 pm
Kerala Updates: Resurrecting fortunes for Ford in India, the much-loved EcoSport is all set to get a major facelift in November this year in Brazil and was recently spied testing in the South American country. The updated model is slated to be launched in India as well and will get revised styling to the front and rear, while the interior will be updated with more features on offer. While the test mule is covered in camouflage the spy shot reveals that the 2017 Ford EcoSport will receive a restyled front featuring a larger twin-slat grille, reworked headlamps and new fog lights on the lines of the new Everest and Endeavour SUVs. The bumper is also likely to receive tweaks to adopt to the new changes. The side profile remains largely the same, while the rear could see the the externally mounted spare wheel being replaced with the license plate holder in the centre Inside, the 2017 Ford EcoSport facelift will get the new Ford SYNC2 infotainment system with an updated colour display panel on the centre console, while updates will also include new control switches for the climate control infotainment unit. Going by the American automaker's 'One Ford' strategy, expect the bulk of these changes to make it to the India spec model as well. That said, the Indian EcoSport will retain the externally mounted spare wheel that gives the SUV its butch and brawny appearance. Talking about power, the Brazil spec Ford EcoSport could get a new 1.5-litre Dragon naturally aspirated petrol engine that is said to produce 130hp of power. It is unlikely that this engine will make it to India with the company already offering the 1.0-litre EcoBoost three-cylinder petrol motor as well as the 1.5-litre Ti-VCT four-cylinder unit. The updated version will continue to get the 1.5-litre TDCi diesel engine producing 98bhp of power. Ford has kept details about the new EcoSport under wraps for good at present and an official unveil is slated at the Sao Paulo Auto Show in November. The updated version is likely to go on sale in India by next year with exports from the Chennai based facility commencing around the same time.
